Hey I've been travelling in Asia for the past couple of months and have come across this yellow light problem. I read up on all the posts but they are all fixes for those using routers. Since I'm in Asia and I access the internet on my laptop through a cable that connects from a switch installed somewhere in the building. I do not use a router. The cable comes in from the roof (i think) and goes directly into my LAN card.

When I use bitcomet I get the yellow light. Also I think I access a 256 kBps connection...I use Windows XP SP2...

I tried the cmd, ipconfig to check my ip address.. and my ip adress and Default gateway have the same numbers except for the last 2 digits. One is xx.xx.xxx.18 and the other is xx.xx.xxx.1....Also My dl speeds top out at 25 kBps.

Am not sure if this info is enough for anyone to help me..but I would really appreciate it if one of you guys can help me out with this problem... Thanks!!!

The yellow light is a simpleminded test, but it indicates that incoming traffic on your listen port is being blocked by a firewall. (Only a portion of these instances are due to the built-in firewalls in most routers, but these seem to give the most trouble.)

The firewalls you are encountering may be one or more software firewalls running on your computer, that you haven't configured to allow traffic through on your BC listen port, or possibly firewalls that you don't even know you have.

They could also be one or more firewalls that you are connecting through and don't know it. I would expect this in your situation. Most buildings use a router to distribute internet connections throughout the building. Most such routers have a built-in firewall to protect everyone, but it's quite possible the manager is entirely unaware of this, does not know how to change it, and wouldn't change it just for you anyway.

If that's the case, whoever set up the router may have left some ports open for anyone who might want to run a server. It does happen. Try setting the web server and email server ports as your listen port, see if either of them work. If you can't find one, then you'll just have to go with "no listen port" mode and make the best of it.

I solved my problem in 2 minutes; might not be the same for you guys, but at it's at least worth giving it a try. Add bitcomet to your list of firewall exceptions and uncheck them. Remember to disble the "Do not allow exceptions" on the general firewall settings.

I also am running xp with a 2wire 1700hg router I wonder if it has somethin to do with the 2 wire routers. I am thinkin about just switching to bit torrent or something

You are playing with your lives guys - don't ever switch off the antivirus and never disable the firewall!!! If you have a package like MfAfee, you can switch off Window's firewall - never run two simultaniously, it won't work.

Set the firewall to the lowest trusting/filtering level. I had these problems a lot with eMule and in the end it was my AOL connection. Now that I have a router and no AOL software installed, everything is peachy. Always a green light und fast downloads :o)
